Isleview House, Salt Spring Island

This house for a busy family had to stretch across a challenging site with views west to a garden/ field and east to Gulf Islands. The house is a series of split levels with different zones of use.

The garage, informal entry and 'children's wing' face towards the field. The' family wing ' of kitchen , dining, and deck over garage are at mid level. The 'adult wing' contains master bdrm., living, and study. This level straddles a ridge of rock on the site and faces the eastern ocean view - but can also look back over the Dining towards the garden field.

The house is animated by a rhythm of roofs that bring in light to the various zones. Two energy efficient wood fireplaces share ducting with the furnace system and heat recovery ventilation minimize energy costs. Roof rainwater is stored in a cistern.
